These scholarships support graduate research training by enabling domestic students of exceptional research promise to undertake higher degrees by research at The University of Western Australia.

There are no separate application forms. Apply through the UWA online application form for Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships.

All applicants are automatically considered for the Hackett and Jean Rogerson Scholarships, which are awarded to the top-ranked applicants.

For the Gledden Scholarships, applicants should tick the appropriate box and provide an additional 100 word statement (see below for details).

Hackett Postgraduate Scholarships

The Hackett Postgraduate Scholarships are awarded by the Scholarships Committee to the top-ranked applicants in the annual application round. These scholarships provide a stipend of $35,000 a year as well as a travel allowance of up to $5000.

Jean Rogerson Postgraduate Scholarships

The Jean Rogerson Postgraduate Scholarships are awarded by the Scholarships Committee to highly ranked applicants in the annual application round. The full scholarship provides a stipend of $35,000.

Robert and Maude Gledden Postgraduate Scholarships

The Gledden Postgraduate Scholarships are awarded for research in applied science, particularly relating to surveying, engineering, mining or cognate subjects. These scholarships provide a stipend of $30,000 a year plus a travel allowance of up to $5000.

Gledden scholarships are typically awarded to PhD students enrolled in the faculties of:

  • Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
  •  
  • Science

However, relevant applications will be considered from candidates in other faculties.

Gledden applicants must provide a 100-word outline of the proposed research project and its relevance to the terms of the Gledden Trust awards.

Forrest Research Foundation PhD Scholarships

The Forrest Research Foundation PhD Scholarships are awarded to outstanding students who wish to undertake high quality research and enrol in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at a Western Australian university.

All Forrest Scholars will receive a scholarship package which includes-

  • a Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship or University Postgraduate Award (UPA) valued at $26,682 per annum in 2017;
  • an accommodation allowance valued at $20,011 per annum in 2017 and subject to annual indexation; and
  • a relocation and research travel allowance of $13,000.

The Dean's Excellence in Science PhD Scholarships

The Dean's Excellence in Science PhD Scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding international and domestic students wishing to undertake a research doctorate (PhD) in the Faculty of Science.

All Dean's Excellence in Science PhD Scholars will receive a scholarship package which includes:

  • a living allowance (stipend) of $40,000 per annum;
  • a research travel/conference allowance of $5,000 per annum;
  • a research operating and submission costs allowance of $5,000 per annum; 
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (for international students); and
  • tuition fees (for international students).
