UWA China Scholarships [F51323]

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) and The University of Western Australia (UWA) are offering a limited number of postgraduate research scholarships each year to students from the People's Republic of China who intend to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at UWA. The scholarships are normally awarded to graduates from the Chinese universities listed as 985 or 211 Program Universities, but applications from graduates of other Chinese universities are also considered.

UWA will provide a scholarship to cover tuition fees for selected students and the CSC will provide a living allowance as prescribed from time to time by the Chinese Government, a return airfare to Australia by the most economical route, and visa application fees.   • Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria for enrolment in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at UWA, including a high level of English language proficiency;
  • Applicants must comply with the Australian Government's English proficiency requirements for the issue of a student visa. Candidates should check those requirements with the nearest Australian diplomatic post or the relevant website:;
  • Applicants should be intending to pursue a PhD in one of the priority academic areas identified by the CSC or one of UWA's areas of research concentration. However, applicants to other study/research areas may also be considered;
  • Applicants must satisfy the selection criteria set out by the CSC, and submit the CSC Application Form and the CSC Employer Reference Form directly to the CSC by the due date. The forms are available at

15 March 2019: Deadline for prospective candidates to apply directly to UWA for admission (for commencement in second half of 2019). Applicants will need to complete the Application for Higher Degree by Research and attach a brief research outline (one to two pages) and details of any publications in learned journals or copies of any published papers. Please indicate that you are applying for a China Scholarship.

31 March 2019: Deadline for prospective candidates to submit their CSC application for funding form and CSC employer reference form to the CSC. Forms are available online at In some cases there may be a deadline for applications for the Chinese university that is nominating the candidate for the CSC scholarship. Prospective candidates should check with their university if there is an application deadline prior to the CSC application closing date.

UWA will provide the CSC with a list of suitable candidates to be considered for the scholarship program and copies of UWA offer letters.

May/June 2019: The CSC will evaluate applications according to CSC requirements and priorities, and provide UWA with a shortlist of potential scholarship recipients.

The CSC will announce the final list of scholarship recipients and send offer letters to successful applicants.

July 2019: Successful applicants will be expected to enrol and start their PhD study at UWA from July 2019 onwards.
