Biological hydrogen and methane production from thermally hydrolysed organic wastes
Description
 The aim of the project is to explore biological hydrogen and methane production from thermally hydrolysed organic wastes. The objectives of the project include: 1) Evaluate the efficiency of thermal hydrolysis of various organic wastes2) Determine how the thermal pre-treatment affects biological hydrogen production rate and yield from various organic wastes using dark fermentation3) Optimise the operating conditions of biological hydrogen producing bioreactors4) Evaluate the potential for methane generation from the effluents of hydrogen producing bioreactors5) Explore the possibility of improving methane generation through the use of bioelectrochemical systems6) Evaluate the performance of the biological hydrogen and methane generation with alternative feedstocks

Eligibility
Relevant degree holders with a background in microbiology, biotechnology, environmental engineering or other relevant fields.  Applicants should meet the relevant research requirements for postgraduate research study as well as appropriate English language skills as per UWA  guidelines. All interested applicants should submit an expression of interest to Dr Anna Kaksonen ([email protected]) with a copy to [email protected] The supervisors reserve the right to make an appointment before the closing date if a suitable candidate is identified. This provides for a Living Allowance Scholarship.
