The China Scholarship Council (CSC) and The University of Western Australia (UWA) are offering a limited number of postgraduate research scholarships each year to high-achieving students from the People's Republic of China who intend to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at UWA.

UWA will provide a scholarship to cover tuition fees for selected students and the CSC will provide a living allowance as prescribed from time to time by the Chinese Government and return airfares to Australia. • Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria for enrolment in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at UWA, including a high level of English language proficiency;
• Applicants must comply with the Australian Government's English proficiency requirements for the issue of a student visa. Candidates should check those requirements with the nearest Australian diplomatic post or the relevant website: https://www.border.gov.au/;
• Applicants should be intending to pursue a PhD in one of the priority academic areas identified by the CSC or one of UWA's areas of research concentration. However, applicants to other study/research areas may also be considered;
• Applicants must satisfy the selection criteria set out by the CSC, and submit the CSC Application Form and the CSC Employer Reference Form directly to the CSC by the due date. The forms are available at https://apply.csc.edu.cn/

17 February 2023: Deadline for prospective candidates to apply directly to UWA for admission (for commencement in second half of 2023). Applicants will need to complete an Expression of Interest form online to confirm eligibility and supervision by emailing [email protected]. Please indicate that you are applying for a China Scholarship.

31 March 2023 (To be confirmed by CSC): Deadline for prospective candidates to submit their CSC application for funding form and CSC employer reference form to the CSC. Forms are available online at https://apply.csc.edu.cn. In some cases there may be a deadline for applications for the Chinese university that is nominating the candidate for the CSC scholarship. Prospective candidates should check with their university if there is an application deadline prior to the CSC application closing date.

UWA will provide the CSC with a list of suitable candidates to be considered for the scholarship program and copies of UWA offer letters.

May/June 2023: The CSC will evaluate applications according to CSC requirements and priorities, and provide UWA with a shortlist of potential scholarship recipients. It is expected applicants will be advised of the outcome of their applications by the CSC by 30 June 2023.

July 2023: Successful applicants will be expected to enrol and start their PhD study at UWA between July to November 2023.
