Title
Abbie Basson Sarcoma Research Scholarship
Description

The Abbie Basson Sarcoma Research Scholarship is offered annually in memory of Abbie Basson. Before her life was tragically cut short by Ewing's Sarcoma at the young age of 20, Abbie planned to fund research into the uncommon and aggressive tumour group, sarcoma.

The PhD top up scholarship is to be awarded to an outstanding candidate who has attracted a Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend, Australian Postgraduate Award or equivalent to encourage and support research into the cellular and molecular biology of sarcoma (malignant bone and soft tissue tumour) with a view to developing more effective treatments.

In addition to the annual scholarship, up to $6000 over the duration of the PhD can also be made available on application to support travel to attend conferences, short courses or laboratory training. A further sum, where necessary, will also be provided to support annual laboratory consumable expenses and other related costs up to a maximum of $8,000 per annum.

The scholarship is a supplementary scholarship to be held in conjunction with a Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend, a University Postgraduate Award (UPA) or equivalent postgraduate research scholarship recognised by the University.
