Scholarships Office - Commonwealth Scholarships & SWANS Scholarships

Commonwealth Scholarships (CS) & UWA SWANS Scholarships (SWANS) are intended to assist students receiving a Centrelink payment or who can demonstrate financial hardship, Indigenous students, and students from rural and regional areas with costs associated with higher education.

Students studying:

an undergraduate degree (including Honours);
a Graduate Diploma in Education; or
a Master of Architecture (Coursework) or a Masters course recognised by Centrelink*

may be eligible to apply.

* Master of Architecture (Coursework) or a Masters course recognised
 by Centrelink may apply for UWA SWANS only.

Scholarships for award in Semester 1, 2009:
Applications are NOW OPEN.
First round applications will close on 30 September 2008.
Late applications cannot be accepted.

A second application round will open later in 2008, closing in February 2009.

Scholarships for award in Semester 2, 2008:
Online applications are NOW CLOSED. Notification of application results was made via UWA student email address on 21 August 2008. Payments will be made by late-September.

What are the scholarship types?

There are several types of CS and SWANS Scholarships available:

Commonwealth Scholarships

Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (CECS): valued at $2,207 in 2008 for up to four years
Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships (CAS): valued at $4,415 in 2008 for up to four years
Indigenous Enabling Scholarship - CECS: valued at $2,207 in 2008 for up to one year
Indigenous Enabling Scholarship - CAS: valued at $4,415 in 2008 for up to one year
Indigenous Access Scholarship: valued at $4,116 in 2008 as a one-off payment

UWA SWANS Scholarships

UWA Cash Payment Scholarship (SWANS Cash): valued at $2,207 in 2008 for up to four years
UWA Partial Fee Waiver Scholarship (SWANS Fee): valued at $2,207 in 2008 for up to four years

Each of these scholarships has its own eligibility criteria. Please check the specific criteria before you submit an application for any of these scholarships.
