Biomedical, Biomolecular and Chemical Sciences Summer Vacation Scholarship

This scholarship will not be offered in 2009. It may be available again at a later date.

The School of Biomedical and Chemical Sciences invites applications for summer vacation scholarships from undergraduates who

  • intend majoring in biochemistry, chemistry, genetics, microbiology, molecular biology or physiology and would thereby qualify to undertake Honours in this School;

  • are enrolled in another appropriate Science major stream which would qualify them to undertake Honours or postgraduate work in this School;

  • are medical students intending to enrol in a Bachelor of Medical Science;

  • show potential for postgraduate research.

One Scholarship only is available to each of the Disciplines within the School, namely Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology and Immunology and Physiology.

The Scholarships are valued at $1,500 and are available for a vacation project to be carried out over a minimum of six weeks, and a maximum of ten weeks, during the period of December to February each year. $1,000 of the award will be paid during the project, with the remaining $500 to be paid at the completion of the project upon submission, and approval by the Head of School, of a project report. All payment claims must be accompanied by certification from the project supervisor confirming performance in accordance with the project application.

Applicants are required to gain the acceptance and approval of the project to be undertaken from an appropriately qualified supervisor within the School. The project supervisor should submit the student’s application to the appropriate Chair of Discipline who will rank applicants on their undergraduate academic performance, discipline related areas and available resources in the laboratory.

The Application Forms are available from the four Discipline Offices, the School Office and can also be downloaded from this site.

Applicants will be informed in writing regarding the status of their applications.

The number of scholarships is limited and not all applications may be successful.
