Ted Maslen Scholarship

Dr Ted Maslen (1935-1997) was a former Head of the Department of Physics at UWA. In memory of Dr Maslen and recognition of his achievements, an annual scholarship is awarded in his name.

Its purpose is to encourage students from rural areas to pursue studies in Science.

Ted Maslen scholarships are valued at $1000 and will be awarded on the basis of academic and sporting achievement.

Eligibility is restricted to students entering tertiary studies for the first time, with preference given to those students who have completed Year 12 at a school that is located in a rural or isolated area.

The award is conditional on enrolment in a Bachelor's degree course offered through the Faculty of Life and Physical Sciences.

A portrait of Ted MaslenTed Maslen was born in Kalgoorlie, and grew up in Geraldton. He entered UWA to start a Science degree in 1951. As well as being an outstanding student and keen athlete, he was President of the Guild of Undergraduates, and was later awarded a Rhodes Scholarship. After returning to Perth, Ted had a long and distinguished academic career within the Department of Physics, complemented by his ongoing involvement in sport and public life.
