John and Dixie Rathbone Memorial Scholarship for Indigenous Students

Mike Rathbone donates funds annually to provide a scholarship in honour of his parents, John and Dixie Rathbone, to encourage and assist Indigenous students to undertake an undergraduate degree course at The University of Western Australia.

Preference is given to a student who is undertaking an undergraduate degree course in civil engineering however students enrolled in other courses and faculties are also encouraged to apply.

Value

$2,500 (in 2010).

Duration

The scholarship is tenable for—
(a) the duration or remainder of the undergraduate course for which it is awarded, including an Honours year if applicable; or
(b) the duration or remainder of the original course if the recipient transfers from the course for which the scholarship is awarded to another course of the University.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for a scholarship an applicant must be—

(a) a citizen or permanent resident of Australia; and
(b) an Indigenous person; and
(c) enrolled or eligible to enrol in an undergraduate degree course at the   University.

Preference is given to applicants in the order of priority set out below -

(a) to applicants enrolled or eligible to enrol in an undergraduate degree course in the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics pursuing or intending to pursue the Civil and Resource Engineering programme.
(b) to applicants enrolled or eligible to enrol in any undergraduate engineering degree course offered by the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics;
(c) to applicants enrolled or eligible to enrol in any other undergraduate degree course at the University. 

To take up the scholarship, the recipient must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate course at the University.

Applications

Written applications are called for annually on the University Scholarships website at http://www.scholarships.uwa.edu.au/home/undergrad and must be submitted with supporting documentation by the advertised closing date.

Closing date

19 February 2010.

Applications open 7 January 2010.
