In 2010, The University of Western Australia is offering four Group of Eight scholarships to students with the drive and determination to achieve academically despite financial constraints.
Eligibility
To be eligible for these awards students must: • demonstrate financial need; • be permanent residents or citizens of Australia; • have applied through TISC for a place at UWA, nominating a UWA course as their first preference for the first round of offers; • be completing year 12 or equivalent in 2009; • meet the requirements for entry to their selected course; • have undertaken no previous study at University level; and • be able to provide supporting evidence of low income background (eg Centrelink statement).
The scholarships will be awarded to the four candidates with the highest TER (ATAR) (or equivalent) among those who meet all the above criteria.
Students who are awarded a Group of Eight Scholarship will not be eligible to receive a Diversity and Merit Award.
Value & Duration
$4340 per annum (in 2010), awarded for the duration of the original course and indexed annually in line with the Commonwealth Scholarships Indexation. There are two types of scholarship available:
i) Partial Fee Payment Scholarship worth up to $4340 per annum (in 2010). (According to advice received from the Federal Government funds received under this scholarship will be exempt in means-tested Commonwealth Income Support Payments); and ii) Cash Payment Scholarship worth up to $4340 per annum (in 2010). (According to advice received from the Federal Government funds received under this scholarship will be included as income in means-tested Commonwealth Income Support Payments).
