Newmont (Asia Pacific) Indigenous Scholarship in Geology

The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and assist a meritorious Indigenous student who is enrolled in or intending to enrol in an undergraduate degree course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science (Earth Science), or Bachelor of Science (Mineral Geoscience), or Bachelor of Science (Geology and Resource Economics), or a Bachelor of Science with a major in geology, including an honours year where applicable.

One scholarship is available each year.

The scholarship is tenable for the duration of the undergraduate course for which it is awarded, including an honours year if applicable.

Value

The value of the scholarship is $10,000 per annum, comprising -
(a) the up-front student contribution amount per annum applicable to the course for which the scholarship is awarded; and
(b) the balance of funds remaining after payment of (a) to be used, at the student’s discretion, as a living allowance or for field trips or the purchase of books or to meet other expenses associated with study.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for consideration for a scholarship an applicant must be —
(a) a citizen or permanent resident of Australia;
(b) an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and
(c) enrolled or intending to enrol full-time in a course leading to the Bachelor of Science (Earth Science), or Bachelor of Science (Mineral Geoscience) or Bachelor of Science (Geology and Resource Economics) or Bachelor of Science with a major in Geology.

Selection Criteria

The scholarship is awarded to the applicant who, in the opinion of the selection committee, best demonstrates through their application and supporting documentation:
(a) academic achievement; and
(b) one or more of the following –
(i) other achievements or abilities;
(ii) leadership;
(iii) community service.

Selection of the recipient is made by the selection committee having regard to the applicants’ academic records, completed application forms and supporting documentation.

Application Procedure

Written applications are called for annually on the University Scholarships website (http://www.scholarships.uwa.edu.au/home/undergrad) and must be submitted with supporting documentation by the advertised closing date.
