A sum of money is donated annually to provide scholarships and associated travel awards to: • encourage and assist students enrolled in the final 48 points of a single or combined course for the Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Economics degree to complete a major in Finance with a view to a proposed career in alternative investments such as hedge funds, and • provide an opportunity to undertake a four-week internship at a hedge fund company in London, England.
Value
The total value of the studentship is $20000.
Duration of Award
$10000 of the scholarship is payable while the recipient is completing the portion of the undergraduate degree course for which the scholarship is awarded.
The value of the associated travel award of $10000 will contribute to expenses, including the cost of airfares, transfers, accommodation, living allowance and insurance, associated with undertaking an internship at a hedge fund company in London as nominated and arranged by the donor.
Eligibility Requirements
Scholarship
To be eligible to apply for the scholarship an applicant must: (a) be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia (b) be enrolled, or eligible to enrol, full-time in the final 48 points of a single or combined course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Economics with a major in Finance
Travel Award
To be eligible to apply for a travel award a recipient of the scholarship must: (a) accept the opportunity to undertake an internship at a hedge fund company in London, England, to be nominated and arranged by the donor (b) pass all units comprising the final 48 points of the undergraduate degree course in relation to which the scholarship is awarded (c) provide a provisional budget of costs, along with quotes obtained, to the Faculty Administrative Officer prior to the release of funds
Selection Criteria
The scholarship and travel award are awarded by the selection committee to the applicant who, in its opinion, best demonstrates through their completed application and supporting documentation: (a) academic achievement as evidenced by their academic record (b) an interest in pursuing a career in Finance, particularly in the area of alternative investments such as hedge funds
Application Procedure
Written applications addressing the selection criteria must be accompanied by: (a) a covering letter outlining the applicant's reasons for applying for the scholarship and travel award (b) the applicant’s interest in pursuing a career in finance with a focus on alternative investments such as hedge fund
