This scheme provides postgraduate scholarships, including project support where necessary, for suitably qualified students undertaking research projects involving UWA and one of the following CSIRO Divisions - CSIRO Exploration and Mining, CSIRO Petroleum Resources and CSIRO Minerals. There may also be an opportunity to involve other CSIRO Divisions in the future. Each student supported under the scheme will receive a maximum allowable allocation of $25,000 pa (inclusive of stipend and project support grant) and must be of high academic quality and eligible for enrolment in a Higher Degree by Research program within UWA. Funding will be provided on a matching basis with 50% by UWA and 50% by the CSIRO. Of the University contribution, 25% is to be funded by the Faculty and/or School / Centre and 25% by the central Research Matching Fund. The aim of the WACUPS scheme is to enhance collaboration between Western Australian universities and participating CSIRO Divisions, through the provision of scholarships for students undertaking projects of mutual benefit to both parties. Prospective students and supervisors are asked to approach the CSIRO Divisions in the first instance to make independent inquires about suitable projects of interest. International applicants should also apply for the International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) and the Scholarships for International Research Fees (SIRFs).
