"Green Tea" Breast Cancer Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to participate in a bi-national randomised control trial (RCT) examining the inhibitory effects of GT capsules on digitally calibrated mammographic density in Australian and Chinese woman. 

Value

The annual value of the tax-free stipend is equivalent to the Australian Postgraduate Award plus $5000pa Top-Up (Total value: $25,427pa in 2009 and indexed annually. The scholarship can also be  be awarded in conjunction with another primary scholarship as a top-up.

Eligibility

To be eligible for consideration applicants must:
(a) be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia; and
(b) be a graduate of this University or of another recognized university; and
(c) have applied to undertake full-time PhD research jointly in the School of Surgery and the School of Population Health at UWA; and
(d) reside in Western Australia for the duration of the scholarship

Duration

The scholarship is tenable for three years (with provision for 6 months additional funding subject to satisfactory progress).

Application Procedure

Applicants wishing to commence in 2009 should apply online in conjunction with the Mid-Year Australian Postgraduate Award application round. You must also contact Professor Christobel Saunders and submit a written application (see details below) in order to be considered for this scholarship.

Written applications should address the following:
(a) applicant details, including name, address, telephone, email, date of birth and citizenship
(b) academic qualifications
(c) previous research experience, outlining skills acquired
(d) previous research publications, abstracts and presentations
(e) relevant work or practical experience
(f) a statement of interest in this field of research and in completing a PhD, which must be written in lay terms to be understood by a non-scientific audience
(g) contact details of three referees including name, position, institution/organization, telephone and email address

Written applications should use the following format:
(a) Minimum size typeface to be used is 12pt
(b) Times new roman or Arial font
(c) Academic transcript should be an original or certified copy
(d) Only include publications accepted for publication in refereed journals 
(e) One original, plus four copies of the typed application, academic transcript and curriculum vitae should be sent by mail
