The Lions Cancer Institute has made available a sum of money for the purpose of establishing a fund to provide supplementary scholarships to assist higher degree by research students to pursue research into cancer at The University of Western Australia. These supplementary scholarships are funded for up to 3 years and provide a $10,000 per annum stipend to provide the student with financial assistance while they undertake their PhD studies. $5,000 additional support will be available during the tenure of the scholarship in order for the scholarship holder to present their work at a recognized international or national conference. To be eligible to be nominated for this scholarship, an applicant must – (a) be enrolled in or be eligible to be enrolled in a higher degree by research at The University of Western Australia; (b) be the holder of a primary scholarship such as an Australian Postgraduate Award, University Postgraduate Award or equivalent postgraduate research scholarship; and (c) demonstrate that their research is related to the causes, prevention and/or treatment of cancer. Preference will be given to students who are enrolling in 2009, however, already enrolled students will also be considered for the award.
