
Prestigious Postgraduate Research ScholarshipsThe purpose of these scholarships is to support graduate research training by enabling students of exceptional research promise to undertake higher degrees by research at The University of Western Australia. Applications for the following prestigious and valuable postgraduate research scholarships for 2010 will open in August 2009. Features include: • Total value of at least $110,000 over three and a half years • Opportunity to work with Australia's leading researchers • Available in all disciplines There are no separate application forms for these scholarships. Apply through the UWA online application form for Australian and University Postgraduate Awards. Please note: Applications for 2010 will close on 30 October 2009. All applicants are automatically considered for the Hackett and Prescott Scholarships and the Jean Rogerson Top-up Scholarships, and these scholarships are awarded to the top-ranked applicants. There is no separate application form for the Gledden Scholarships, but applicants should tick the appropriate box and provide an additional 100 word statement (see below for details). Applicants for the Barrington, Baillieu and BHP Billiton Scholarships should tick the appropriate box and provide additional information if required. HACKETT POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPSHackett Postgraduate Scholarships are awarded by the Scholarships Committee to the top-ranked applicants in the annual application round. These scholarships provide a stipend of $30,000 pa plus a travel allowance of up to $5,000. PRESCOTT POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPSPrescott Postgraduate Scholarships are awarded by the Scholarships Committee to highly ranked applicants in the annual application round. These scholarships provide a stipend of $30,000 pa. JEAN ROGERSON POSTGRADUATE TOP-UP SCHOLARSHIPSJean Rogerson Postgraduate Top-Up Scholarships are awarded by the Scholarships Committee to highly ranked applicants in the annual application round. The top-up stipend is valued at $6000pa. ROBERT AND MAUDE GLEDDEN POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPSGledden Postgraduate Scholarships are awarded for research in applied science, particularly relating to surveying, engineering, mining or cognate subjects. These scholarships provide a stipend of $26,669pa (2009 APA(Industry) rate) plus a travel allowance of up to $5,000. Gledden scholarships are typically awarded to PhD students enrolled in the Faculties of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics; Natural and Agricultural Sciences; and Life and Physical Sciences. However, relevant applications will be considered from candidates in other Faculties. Gledden applicants must provide a 100-word outline of the proposed research project and its relevance to the terms of the Gledden Trust awards, as stated in the regulations:
