Scholarships for Timely PhD Completion

Nominations from Schools are invited for the following incentive to encourage timely PhD completions.

UWA Completion Scholarships

Round 1 2010 Completion Scholarship applications will open on 1st Feburary 2010 and will close on FRIDAY 26 FEBRUARY 2010.

Approximately 20 Completion Scholarships will be awarded to full-time PhD students for up to a maximum of 20 weeks. Selection will be based on thesis progress to date, strength of recommendation from the School, details of completion plan, and publications record (if applicable). These scholarships are available only to  those students completing a PhD - they are not available to Masters students.

Completion Scholarships will be paid at the current rate of the University Postgraduate Award together with a "safety net" top up Scholarship, and will initially be paid from School/Faculty accounts. Please note that revised conditions, as determined by the Scholarships Committee, apply to all new Completion Scholarship awards in 2010. If the thesis is not submitted by the due date, there will be a financial penalty to the School and 100% of the funding will be lost - there will be no reimbursement from central scholarship funds.

Please also note that the earliest start date for payment of Round 1 Completion Scholarships is Monday 1st March 2010. Payment cannot be backdated beyond this date. However, if Schools wish to provide 'bridging scholarship support' until the commencement of a Completion Scholarship, an Ad Hoc Scholarship Proposal Form may be submitted to the Scholarships Office. There will be no reimbursement to the School for Ad Hoc scholarship payments made in the period prior to Monday 1st March 2010.
