Resource Capital Funds, together with Ausenco, St Barbara Limited and Trafigura, donates a sum of money annually to provide up to two scholarships to encourage students with an interest in the resources and/or mining sector to undertake relevant full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study. The scholarship is intended for students who demonstrate leadership potential and who have an interest in joining the resources and/or mining sector. ValueThe total value of the studentship is $15000. Duration of AwardThe scholarship is tenable for two semesters which are normally consecutive. Eligibility RequirementsTo be eligible to apply for the scholarship an applicant must: (a) be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia (b) be undertaking one of the following courses: (i) a postgraduate degree course by way of coursework or coursework and dissertation in the UWA Business School; or (i) an honours course in commerce or economics in the UWA Business School; or (iii) the final 48 points of the combined course leading to the Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Engineering degrees; or (iv) the final 48 points of the combined course leading to the Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Engineering degrees; or (v) the final 48 points of the combined course leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science (with a major in Geology or a program in Geology and Resource Economics); or (vi) the final 48 points of the combined course leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Science (with a major in Geology or a program in Geology and Resource Economics) Applicants referred to in (b)(i) must have a background in resources and/or mining. Applicants referred to in (b)(ii) must be proposing a dissertation topic related to the resources and/or mining sector. Selection CriteriaThe scholarship is awarded to the applicant who, in the opinion of the selection committee, best demonstrates- (a) academic achievement (b) an interest in resource and/or mining (c) leadership skills or potential Application ProcedureWritten applications addressing the selection criteria must be accompanied by: (a) a letter outlining the applicant's experience and/or interest in the resources and/or mining sector (b) a curriculum vitae that includes at least the following information: (i) academic achievements such as prizes and scholarships (ii) employment experience (if relevant) (iii) leadership positions held at school, university, in the community and in the workplace (iv) a brief description of the proposed research project (if relevant) For applicants who have undertaken study at a tertiary institution other than The University of Western Australia, a copy of the applicant's academic record from that institution must be included.
