Indigenous status

A student is considered an Indigenous person for the purpose of a Commonwealth scholarship where the student meets certain conditions.

These are that the student:

  • is of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • identifies as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • is accepted as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in the community in which he or she lives or has lived.

To confirm your status as an Indigenous person you may submit either:

  • a statement declaring that you identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, together with a letter signed by the Chairperson of the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander incorporated organisation in the community in which you live or previously lived
  • a letter from the School of Indigenous Studies at UWA confirming your Indigenous status.
