For scholarships where Educational Disadvantage is listed along with Academic Achievement as the selection criteria, the selection committee will consider aspects of an applicant's personal situation when awarding the scholarship.

Educational disadvantage is currently assessed by the selection committee on the following criteria-

• Recent school leavers (under 20 years of age) from low socio-economic schools, with less than 1 year of tertiary study;
• Students from a regional or remote background;
• Holders of an Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa;
• Students with a disability or chronic medical conditions;
• Students with carer responsibilities who cannot study full-time; and
• Indigenous Australians

Where educational disadvantage is a selection criteria applicants do not need to necessarily meet any of the above to apply for a scholarship. Their eligibility to apply is governed by the eligibility requirements for the scholarship which may contain one or more of the above, or none.

Applicants indicating that they meet one or more of the above criteria will need to provide evidence in their application.
